Default Movie review: The Hidden Rebellion

"Beautifully made, The Hidden Rebellion focuses on the architects of the French Revolution inflicting a war of extermination in 1793 on the Vendean people, their countrymen in the peaceful Vendee region of rural western France who wanted to retain and practice their Catholic faith. But the fanatical revolutionaries were seizing church properties and stifling religion."
Until fairly recently, I had been largely unaware of the Vendean rebellion which occurred after the French Revolution when the revolutionaries were intent on destroying the Church. Now I have several books on the subject. There was previously a movie made using all child actors, but this is a new movie about the subject. It will no doubt help one to understand how in FrCance even today, the Catholic Church is practically an underground Church.

The review appears in the National Catholic Register:

Thanks for sharing this. It is good to know the hidden French history. I had no clue of the genocide of Catholics after French revolution. Pray this won't happen to the Church in America.

HIDDEN REBELLION, THE: THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE FRENCH REVOLUTION
Quote:
A thorough examination of the events that brought one of history's most chilling instances of genocide to the idyllic French countryside of the Vendée.

A lot of people don't know that Paris's Notre Dame Cathedral was vandalized and ruined during the French Revolution, as well as many other Catholic Churches in France, and many Catholic priests and nuns were killed.

It wasn't until 1845 that restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral began and then completed in 1870.
