Default Supreme Court to Rule in Virginia Transgender Case

The Supreme Court will take up transgender rights for the first time in the case of a Virginia school board that wants to prevent a transgender teenager from using the boys' bathroom at his high school.

The justices said Friday they will hear the appeal from the Gloucester County school board sometime next year. The high court's order means that student Gavin Grimm will not be able to use the boys' bathroom in the meantime.

A lower court had ordered the school board to accommodate Grimm, but the justices in August put that order on hold while they considered whether to hear the appeal.

Grimm, a 17-year-old high school senior, was born female but identifies as male. He was allowed to use the boys' restroom at his high school for several weeks in 2014. But after some parents complained, the school board adopted a policy requiring students to use either the restroom that corresponds with their biological gender or a private, single-stall restroom. Grimm is backed by the Obama administration in his argument that the policy violates Title IX, a federal law that bars sex discrimination in schools.

It's unfortunate that the decision will likely be issued after Grimm will have graduated but his bravery will benefit those who come after him.

Yeah, that's a long time for the poor girl to hold it.

I am glad concerned parents got involved.

Civilizations I believe have been defined by the challenges they over come and difficulties they worked through. America today struggles trying to identify what bathroom somebody can pee in.

Building a civilization is hard. Entropy woks in only one direction. Enjoy the slide

Me, too. This is a mental condition. A girl who is convinced she is a boy needs serious psychiatric or psychological help BEFORE being convinced by others that she needs to mutilate the body permanently.

Poor girl? She can use a girls' bathroom, but we're going to have a federal case over this. I can also see the opinion of the author of this article which referred to her as "he".

I have a friend of mine who said he'd like to go to the store and ask for a senior discount even though he's not a senior. He said he'd like to say that on that particular day he identified as a senior.

The Supreme will decide whether a girl can use the boys' bathroom and locker room.

Remarkable.

That's not bravery and those would not be benefits but selfish acts.

Agreed. It is indeed remarkable that the Supreme Court, which is meant to simply look at the constitutionality of laws and their application to society, all of a sudden has the authority to make deep moral decisions for the people of the United States.

May God have mercy on us all.

When I attended public schools for the full 13 year period, and I never saw one transgender student.

'Biological gender'? It's curious how the whole phony controversy hinges on creating confusion about the difference between 'gender' and 'sex.' You are born with a sex. Your gender exists only in your mind. You can't commit indecent exposure with your gender.

Odds are the Supreme Court will side with Grimm.

In my opinion, the Left is going too far with it. A decent compromise of letting those with a sex change operation use the identified gender was rejected as being racist. (Reasoning for that being that Black transgenders wouldn't have the economic resources to get the operations.)

People that think they're transgendered, but are only mentally ill.
They might fantasize about being the opposite gender/sex, but they will only mutilate their body permanently with hormones and surgery.

A lot of times trans-people commit suicide due to realizing how they messed up their body and can't go back to how it was once before.

Plus, they won't be able to conceive or have children in the future.

As I child I loved the fable The Emperor's New Clothes. The story made its point through what I thought was hyperbole. As it turns out I'd live in a time when the fable actually seems less ridiculous than our court system.

When the court rules in favor of the plaintiff, and it will, will men be able to avoid registering for the draft with a defense that they really are a woman? Will men in my state, if they are assaulted, be able to force my state to charge the offender with 'Assault on a Female'? By the way that is a privilege vestige of sexism that is allowed to remain. The craziness that result will be funny. Or at least that is the only way you can look at it and not yourself go crazy.

The US has become like any communist country where they force you to believe in the craziest things. It's done to wear you down and make you compliant.

Craziness begets more craziness to justify itself. Actually, we're already at a point where right is wrong and wrong is right. Yikes.

It does seem that way.
