Default PBS to Air Pro-Abortion Documentary During Key Supreme Court Abortion Decision: June 20, 10PM

Quote:
The pro-abortion documentary Trapped — which debuted to a standing ovation at the Sundance Film Festival last month — has snagged a distribution deal with four outlets including PBS’ Independent Lens, which will air the film this summer as the Supreme Court readies a key decision on abortion legislation.

According to Deadline, PBS will air the pro-abortion film in June, at the same time the Supreme Court announces a decision on Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, which will determine the constitutionality of what abortion advocates call the Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers, or TRAP, laws.

Trapped, from director Dawn Porter, takes a sympathetic look at five abortion care providers in Southern states who have fought regulations in order to keep their abortion clinics open. The film won the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Social Impact Filmmaking at Sundance last month.

Poor corporate decision by PBS to broadcast this Pro-Abortion documentary (with no opposing view documentary also offered to the audience).

PBS broadcast a similar Pro-Abortion documentary called 'After Tiller' about 2 years ago.

PBS has also broadcast a slew of documentaries celebrating homosexuality as well as, in the past, a pro-Homosexual lifestyle program called 'In The Life'.

thumbs down.

Praying we get a U.S. Supreme Court victory on this upcoming case . . . from the secular court system sans Justice Antonin Scalia.

PBS: 'Trapped' documentary:

Quote:
TRAPPED goes to the front lines of the controversial battle currently being waged over so-called TRAP laws — Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers — which reproductive rights advocates believe are designed to restrict access to abortion. Told through the eyes of doctors, clinic owners, and staff in Alabama and Texas who are fighting to keep their facilities open, the film reveals the impact of the hundreds of new laws passed since 2011 that set additional standards and regulations for abortion providers. Compliance often requires costly facility modifications or staffing requirements and has resulted in the closure of many clinics.

Proponents of these laws, most of which have been passed in Southern states, maintain that they are necessary to protect women’s health. Opponents believe that the regulations are unnecessary and designed to limit access to abortion. The current case before the U.S. Supreme Court, Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, will decide whether these laws are constitutional.

TRAPPED also includes interviews with the legal team arguing before the Supreme Court that TRAP laws are designed to undermine and circumvent the right to choose granted under Roe v. Wade. In Texas, more than half of the clinics open in 2013 have closed; the handful remaining in Alabama are struggling, and only one remains in Mississippi. TRAPPED provides an on-the-ground, up-to-the minute look at the latest battle in America’s ongoing struggle over abortion rights.

Trapped examines how abortion laws affect doctors, patients and clinic workers in different states. It won the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for For Social Impact Filmmaking at Sundance.
Have you seen it? In the doc, different views are presented.
It makes perfect sheduling sense, time-wise, to air this documentary when the issue is at the forefront of the news.

After Tiller isn't a "pro abortion" film. Have you seen it? While the issue it talks about is late-term abortion, the film explores the personal, moral and ethical struggles of four doctors who perform them as well as their patients,..and the struggles are not always "pro" abortion.

The award-winning In the Life wasn't a "pro homosexual lifestyle program"...it was an LGBT newsmagazine that ran for 20 years that gave information on the history and culture of the gay and lesbian community.
Have you seen it?

Documentaries explore current, hot-button topics and detail the human experience and questions surrounding them.
That's what these do.

'Trapped'

New York Times Movie Review:

“Trapped” is not a balanced analysis of the abortion debate; it makes its sympathies clear. But it is a powerful and persuasive rendering of a corner of women’s health care under siege.

'After Tiller' (2013):

Roger Ebert Review:

Quote:
Documentarians Martha Shane and Lana Wilson are clearly on the side of the four remaining doctors in the United States who perform third-trimester abortions, a procedure that even some women's rights advocates find troubling.

The directors provide us intimate access to their clinics, homes and family lives, showing us the tears of sympathy they shed with despondent women as well as the ethical struggles they face. These are physicians who care dearly for their patients and view their practice as a noble and necessary calling.

Meanwhile, religious zealots are reduced to anonymous images of graphic rhetoric and rigorous prayer. There is no effort to give them anything approaching equal time or treatment, but that doesn't necessarily feel like an omission given that the directors' obvious mission was to put a human face on a complicated topic.

I have seen a little bit of In The Life; it was a was a pro homosexual news program.

The problem with PBS broadcasting docs sympathetically portraying abortionists is that they are crucially tuning out and ignoring the Pro-Life Community's point of view and opinions about the issue of abortion.

PBS is, in theory, a public broadcaster and a public resource broadcasting on public airwaves, and they constantly state that they are all about the entire communities their stations serve during their Pledge Breaks

But PBS does not cover important issues like abortion in a fair and balanced manner and ignores the Pro-Life point of view and voice.
