Others are reporting this now as well, but figured I'd post the link from those who broke the store. As often with celebrities, TMZ was the first to report this. The singer Prince died today at his studio in Minnesota.

My prayers for him and his family at this time.

I had a little red fast car, it had a cassette player, I used to play "Little Red Corvette" very loud.

Gosh, when did we get middle aged?

He just appeared so much more 'dangerous' and naughtier than Michael Jackson - shows how naïf we were in those days!

Another performer connected to Prince, Denise Matthews, passed away in February of this year. She was renamed Vanity and was lead singer in the group Vanity 6. She was also 57.

May they rest in peace, O Lord
And may perpetual light shine upon them.

He was also one of the best guitar players around if not all time. In addition to being a great singer. His music will be missed.

I will not miss a lot of his music. It is reported he could play 27 instruments. He was an innovator in creating sound combinations and textures. An excellent singer.

I know the feeling i'll be 43 in June Local radio station that 20 years ago was 50s & 60s oldies is now the best hits of then 70s & 80s airs a classic American Top 40 from the 80s every Sunday morning, what a trip down memory lane as I get ready for Mass. I'm sure I still have the Purple Rain cassette tape some were.

His innovative music was extraordinarily influential. He was one of the most successful singers in history, having sold over 100 million albums globally. He was a total original, and I am just so sorry to all his friends, fans, and family who loved him and his work.

Well, I don't recall him ever being accused of.child molestation, unlike MJ. Certainly the image and the lyrics were more.risque though. Very talented musician - loved "When Doves Cry"

I had never even heard his voice until today. I realize, though, that he was tremendously talented, and I'm sorry he died so young.

Oh don't we live all in curious times,
You scarce would be believing.

TV News Media ratings storm sweeps with hours and hours of coverage about the $300 million dollar net worth rock star who wore makeup, Halloween costumes, and sang and wrote rotten degenerate "music" and died yesterday.

Meanwhile, in the Real World, more than 10 million Ethiopians are in need of emergency food aid and 430,000 Ethiopian children are malnourished and some have died and American News Media ignores their plight.

Quote:
In a world wracked by crises, some dominate global headlines. Others unfold quietly, building in the background until alarm bells are sounded.

The drought currently ravaging large swathes of Ethiopia falls into the latter category.

Although quite an eccentric, Prince was, by all accounts, a wonderful man who often performed anonymous acts of charity. His early music did have a sexual component that he tried to play down after becoming a Jehovah's Witness.

You many not like him, but he is a child of God, and God loves him as much as he loves you and me.

If all the world were as kind as Prince seemed to be, we would have no wars or strife between nations.

I did not state that I did not like Prince or did not love him.

One can be critical of the persona a human being conveys in public and the art they create as well as their actions without not liking or not loving them.

On the contrary, Criticism is often an expression (and sometimes the highest expression) of concern, advice, and love for the well being of another person as well as other people in general and is not always rooted in animus towards whom the criticism is offered.

A lot of his songs were pretty explicit. We are not to hate the sinner but we can still hate the sin.

"Singer" just so understates Prince's musical accomplishments.
