I'm already seeing Opinion Columnists from the CBC in Canada openly attacking Christianity, including Catholicism, stating Christianity and Islam engage in "anti-gay activities":

Overall I've been pleased with the response of the orthodox Christian
community is response to the this tragedy. Witness, for example, Russle
Moore encouraging people to donate blood for survivors of the attack.
With that said, and as the OP has already demonstrated this, I suspect most of the backlash from the left will be directed towards orthodox Christians rather than Muslims. Most of the comments will target the ever ephemeral "religion" rather than Islam. And in practice the only religion that can be safely targeted is Christian religion. Survivors of the attack have a right to their grief and their anger. But in times like this we should be coming together and not apart. In a time for solidarity, I suspect this will only further the fragementation and polarization of US society. |
