Along this theme. . . My sister is a Dominican Sister of St. Cecilia.

She told me that she loves to sing KT Tunstall's "Universe and U" to Jesus, and Jesus sings it back to her. So I made a video of the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia with that theme as a present for her, and I also uploaded it to youtube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRUTPArPzL0

"When I'm cold inside
You are warm and bright
You know You are so good for me,

With your child's eyes
You are more than You seem
You see into space

I see in your face
the places you've been
the things you have learned
they sit with you so beautifully

You know there's no need to hide away
You know I tell the truth
We are just the same

And I can feel everything you do
Hear everything you say
even when you're miles away

'Cause I am Me, the universe and you. . .
"

etc.

KT Tunstall has a good number of songs that I like to mentally apply to Jesus.

Selena Gomez has a song called Nobody:

No heart, no hands, no skin, no touch
Can get me there, nowhere enough
To love me like you do, to love me like you do
No kiss, no lips, no feel, no rush
Can keep me high, I swear no one
Can love me like you do, can love me like you do, oh

Nobody's gonna love me like you
Nobody, uh
Nobody, no uh
Nobody's gonna love me like you do
Like you, ooh
Nobody's gonna love me like you
Nobody, uh
Nobody, no uh
Nobody's ever loved me to the truth
Like you, ooh

Nobody's gonna love me like you
Nobody, nobody ooh

No oxygen, could barely breathe
My darkest sin, you've raised release
And it's all because of you, all because of you
I don't know what it is, but you've pulled me in
No one compares, could ever begin..

...and so on. I thought it was about a boy, but she said on Twitter a while back that it was about God. She also sang this song along with a song from hillsong at one point in her concerts.

Secular i guess, since she's a pop singer

Sunny (1966) by Bobby Hebb

Bobby Hebb stated that the song is about his brother who was murdered and the song was written within 48 hours after his brother was killed but someone in a comment on YouTube claims they read an interview with Bobby Hebb and Mr. Hebb said that Sunny is the Son of God and he is singing praise to Christ.

The YouTube Commenter didn't say where they read the interview; I tried to finding the interview online but couldn't find anything:

Quote:
Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain.
Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain
The dark days are gone, and the bright days are here
My Sunny one shines so sincere
Sunny one so true, I love you
Sunny, thank you for the sunshine bouquet
Sunny, thank you for the love you brought my way
You gave to me your all and all
Now I feel ten feet tall
Sunny one so true, I love you

Sunny, thank you for the truth you let me see
Sunny, thank you for the facts from A to Z
My life was torn like a wind-blown sand
And the rock was formed when you held my hand
Sunny one so true, I love you

Sunny, thank you for the smile upon your face
Sunny, thank you for the gleam that shows its grace
You're my spark of nature's fire
You're my sweet complete desire
Sunny one so true, I love you

Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain
Sunny, you smiled at me and really eased the pain
Now the dark days are gone, and the bright days are here
My Sunny one shines so sincere
Sunny one so true, I love you...I love You...

I also want to mention A Love Supreme by John Coltrane and Duke Ellington's three Concerts of Sacred Music from the Jazz World although those works are intended to be spiritual music.

I have crossed the horizon to find you

I know your name

They have stolen the heart from inside you

But this does not define you

This is not who you are

You know who you are

This song makes me think of Jesus calling a lost sheep back to confession and the Church.

Hideaway by Berlin

Cool and so breezy
Take it or leave it
Keeping your distance
Arrows to your heart just bounce away
I see you bleeding
Your sad eyes are pleading
The poison is spreading
So cleanse yourself with tears of salvation
Forget the pain
Hideaway in my arms
Where's the shame
Cry away there's no harm
Lost in a nightmare
Falling through thin air
Faster and faster
Love is getting closer and closer
It's time that you wake up
From haircuts and make up
No need to be frightened
Trust in the love that you dream of
You'll be my hero
Start back at zero
Throw off your mask
Freedom at last
Trust in a needed friend

That line always bothered me. I looked it up one time and learned that Paul, who performed that song with him, omitted the swear, so I got a bit of comfort from that fact.

If you equate God with love, then you can perceive them that way.
But even then we might want to subdivide those into two categories, depending whether the artist equates God with love.

I may be showing my bias here, but people who like this thread may like https://forums.catholic.com/showthread.php?t=1046173 (and vice versa).

From the musical 'Wicked,' the song 'For Good.'

Quote:
I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you...
Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend...
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you

Because I knew you

I have been changed for good

And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the things I've done, you blame me for

But then, I guess we know
There's blame to share

And none of it seems to matter anymore

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes the sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood

Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In the wood (Harmony over Glinda)

Who can say if I've been
Changed for the better?
I do believe I have been
Changed for the better

And because I knew you...

Because I knew you...

Because I knew you...
I have been changed for good...

I know you haven't made your mind up yet,
But I would never do you wrong.
I've known it from the moment that we met,
No doubt in my mind where you belong.

I'd go hungry; I'd go black and blue,
And I'd go crawling down the avenue.
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love.

None of those songs are in any way about God. They are all about sex, lust etc. The video to wrecking ball with miley swinging naked is bad enough. If anything they are sinful songs and trying to lead the youth into sinful lifestyles. Just yesterday another of mileys songs came on the radio "we can't stop" there is a line in that song goes something like-
It's our party we can do what we want
It’s our party we can say what we want
It’s our party we can love who we want
We can kiss who we want
We can see who we want
Just sumes up the hold celebs have on young people

Many are bad, some are good. Most have an artistic quality Christian pop songs severely lack.

The point I'm making is those artists are not for Our Lord!
