I did something tonite that should have made me feel good but breaks my heart and saddens me . We had a huge layoff at the hospital  in September and one person that was let go was an elderly man .At Thanksgiving we always get a turkey and normally I give my ticket to someone that doesn't get one and I thought of this man who has a   relative that still works there . He came in tonite after I called her and asked if she'd contact him for me . I bought a card , packed everything they'd need for a dinner , he came in and I was so thrilled to see him, his wife who I never met was parking the car..When he opened the card he started to cry and quickly I managed to make him laugh, I didn't want the poor man to feel embarrassed. His wife thanked me many times while we chatted about other things, he's still not working and she's not well but baby-sits, they lost their home last year , just so many things. It made me sad to think that someone would be grateful for food, something that most of us don't think about. So I'm grateful I have my job, a warm home and food on my table , so many dont

I will be working helping to feed anyone that needs a free Thanksgiving dinner , I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving

You have a tender heart, GM, and nothing wrong with that. Last weekend, I took my 11 year-old to shop for the Operation Christmas Child boxes.  We have done them every year as long as I can remember, and she has always loved picking out the toys and other goodies to go inside. This time, as she picked up the box, she commented how sad it was that there are kids that get nothing for Christmas except this one little shoebox full of tiny gifts. It really hit home for her - kids who have nothing.  I kept telling her how blessed they would be, and excited about what she chose, but she commented over and over, that it was sad that they would be excited over a coloring book and new crayons, or a little box of candy, or a new toothbrush.  I am sure she felt good about doing something, but she was really, really sad that every child doesn't have a big tree with lots of nice gifts underneath. I love her tender spirit, and I think she will always have a giving heart.

Thank you losto for sharing this.  Not having kids makes hearing these stories heartwarming.  Your daughter is blessed to have such caring in her.  I suspect she got it from her mom and her mom did brilliantly in nuturing it.
