Should Germany enact a minimum wage?

The minimum wage could really slam their economy.
Depite being regarded as one of the West's more progressive and egalitarian societies, Germany has no legal minimum wage, a fact that might come as a surprise to many. For decades, opposing a legal minimum wage was one of the core principles of Merkel's CDU.

what do people who make $2/hr contribute to the economy? Most workers in Germany are UNION, so they make a livable wage anyway. And if you took a minute to read your own articles, you would know while there is no uniform minimum wage, there are minimum wages by industry in Germany.

$2 hr, where was that, I saw $6.90 or less and the link in the article shows they want €7.79 ($10.92) in western Germany and €6.89 ($9.65) per hour in the east.
But then again I really don't care what Germans make an hour as long as they can live on it, it's their wage to worry about.

It really doesn't matter what the minimum wage is. If a law is passed that sets a minimum wage, businesses are simply going to raise prices on their products to cover it. Then you're right back to the same wage vs. cost of living ratio.

Your view is popular in conservative circles. But the last three minimum wages reulted in 0.0 price increases. Profits are so high the companies can take the hit of paying livable wages. There is still a dollar menue at McDonalds even though the minumum wage as increased 3 times since its inception.

Are you positive about that analysis? So the quality and portions remain the same, employee benefits are all intact, the conversion from full time based work force has not been replaced by part time or staggered hour work schedules? Mc Donalds is a very poor example. Those impacted are small entrepreneurial and family businesses, the one sector of the economy that drives employment in America.

And this is our business how? Foreign countries can pay their employees whatever they wish and it is not our business, just like it is not their business what we pay our workers. This country needs to stay out of everyone else's business and worry about this country.

I think we have an epedemic in these forums of people who make statements without providing a reliable source.
